Ombudsman’s Office monitors case against Bolot Temirov and Bolot Nazarov

The Office of the Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan is monitoring the case against the investigative journalists Bolot Temirov and an akyn (poet) Bolot Nazarov. Askat Azarbekov, the head of the Ombudsman’s Office, reported.

According to him, on the day of their arrest, he immediately went to the temporary detention facility where he talked to the suspects. Bolot Nazarov wrote a statement in which he said that he did not store drugs and did not distribute them. It is in the Office of the Ombudsman.

In addition, Askat Azarbekov appealed to the Prosecutor General’s Office with a request to drop the case against the aforementioned persons. Earlier, Cholpon Dzhakupova, director of Adilet Legal Clinic, sent an appeal to the Prosecutor General.

Police officers accompanied by special forces soldiers came to Temirov Live office in Bishkek on January 22. They detained Bolot Temirov and took him to the capital’s Department of Internal Affairs.

It became known later that the colleague of Bolot Temirov, Bolot Nazarov, was also detained. The court released both detainees under the written pledge not to leave country.

Journalists associate the visit of police officers with the professional activities of the Temirov Live team and the latest investigation into the fuel business of the family of the head of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev.

Earlier, MP Dastan Bekeshev contacted the Prosecutor General’s Office. He asked the Prosecutor General’s Office to conduct their own investigation into the facts stated in the journalistic material of the Temirov Live team about the fuel business of the family of the head of the State Committee for National Security.
