"Friendship Pilaf" organized by residents of border villages

Residents of border villages of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan organized «Friendship Pilaf» event. Radio Ozodi reported.

The meeting took place in a restaurant, located at the junction of Histevarz jamoat (Tajikistan) and Borborduk village (Kyrgyzstan).

According to journalists’ reports, the event was attended by about 100 residents of the border districts of the two republics, as well as representatives of local authorities — Zafarbek Davlatzoda, head of Bobojon Gafurov district of the Republic of Tajikistan, and Almazbek Rakhmankulov, head of Batken district of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Military personnel from both countries were present at the event, radio Ozodi reports.

Officials told that «participants of the event shared a meal of pilaf together over friendly conversation: it turned out that our neighbors were also looking forward to such meetings.»

According to journalists, it was the third friendly meeting after the armed clash on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border on January 27. On that day, at 6.15 p.m., Tajik border guards unilaterally blocked Batken — Isfana road section in Tort-Kocho area of Batken district. Border units deployed along this section of the border in Batken region were put on combat alert.

At night, the parties agreed on a complete ceasefire, withdrawal of additional forces and means, opening of traffic on Batken — Isfana road and joint patrolling of border areas to prevent conflicts.

A working meeting of the parties was held at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border on January 28.
