City of Karakol in Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan officially took over the baton from the city of Dushanbe and will be the cultural capital of the Commonwealth in 2022. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reported.
According to the ministry, the ceremony of handing over the baton was held at the Tajik State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Aini.
Meder Soorbekov, Advisor at the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Tajikistan, noted that 2022 will be exemplary for Karakol in all social and cultural aspects.
The purpose of the culture capitals project is to develop dialogue and unite the cultural potentials of the Commonwealth countries.
