New strain of coronavirus Omicron was detected in South Africa in late November, scientists are actively studying it, but they already named its main symptoms. Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper reports.
According to its data, there are still more questions than answers to Omicron, but some of its most typical symptoms are already known. One of the characteristic features of the new strain is that it does not cause loss of smell and taste.
The main symptoms of Omicron are described as fatigue and sore throat.
In addition, medical workers from South Africa noted such symptoms as palpitations, high fever, aches and dry cough.
Emergence of the new strain caused serious concern at the World Health Organization — experts suggested that Omicron was more easily transmitted from person to person than the Delta strain. In less than two weeks infected with the new strain appeared in dozens of countries.
Furthermore, two people infected with the new strain of coronavirus have also been detected in Russia. Both of them arrived from South Africa. There have been no official reports of people infected with the Omicron strain in Kyrgyzstan. Nevertheless, the republic imposed new restrictions and tightened safety measures.
