Two cases of Omicron variant registered in Russia

Omicron strain of coronavirus was confirmed in Russians who have returned from South Africa. RIA Novosti reports with reference to Rospotrebnadzor.

It is specified that the Omicron strain was detected in two patients with a positive PCR test result.

«Earlier it was reported that SARS-CoV-2 was detected in ten passengers who arrived from South Africa, but variants of the virus are still being established,» the statement says.

The new strain of coronavirus was registered in South Africa. The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified it as variant «of concern» and named it Omicron. Experts suggest that the new variant of the virus has not only seriously mutated, but is also more easily transmitted from person to person than the Delta strain.

Cases of infection with the Omicron strain were registered in dozens of countries. No Omicron cases were confirmed in Kyrgyzstan yet.
