Investigation into murder of Kyrgyzstani on Uzbekistan’s border launched

The Office of the Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic in Jalal-Abad region launched an investigation into the murder of a Kyrgyz citizen on the border with Uzbekistan.

According to the press service of the Institute of the Ombudsman, its employees left for Aksy district where the murder occurred.

«According to the head of the State Border Service for Jalal-Abad region, Colonel Taalai Kozhoshev, the incident happened on April 7 at 7.30 am. 34-year-old resident of Kerben Farkhad Myrzakulov visited his aunt Diloram Bakiyeva, who lives in the territory of Uzbekistan. Farkhad Myrzakulov already returned and crossed the irrigation ditch, which is a conditional border, then the border guards of Uzbekistan caught up with him, one of them fired a shot at the man in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic and was going to drag him into his territory. The bullet hit the man’s head, Farkhad Myrzakulov died at the scene,» the report said.

«The aunt of the deceased, seeing how border guards were dragging her nephew, started shouting and calling for help. Two Kyrgyz citizens came to her screams, and the border guards of the neighboring country threatened them with death if they move. After the screams of the women other fellow villagers came and the victim was taken to the hospital,» the Ombudsman added.

Two shell casings and a bullet were found at the scene.

The Aksy District Department of Internal Affairs opened a criminal case under Article 97 (murder) of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Human rights activists reminded that a similar situation occurred on January 27. The wounded Asan Usenbayev still has not received compensation.
