Smuggling in Kazakhstan. Arrested deputy to get consular assistance

The deputy of the Parliament from Kyrgyzstan faction Asylbek uulu Damirbek will be rendered legal assistance from the Consulate of the Kyrgyz Republic in Almaty. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic informed 24.kg news agency. Legal aid will be provided to two more Kyrgyz citizens arrested in Almaty.

The ministry reminded that the duty of diplomatic and consular organizations is to assist Kyrgyz citizens who find themselves in various difficult situations abroad.

On February 15-16, Kazakhstan conducted a large-scale special operation to stop smuggling flows, including from Kyrgyzstan.

35 suspects were detained, including three Kyrgyz citizens, customs officials, border officials, brokers, mediators, as well as members of organized criminal groups. 33 of them were arrested by court ruling.

The court granted the motion of the investigation and arrested Asylbek uulu Damirbek, deputy of the Parliament, for a period of two months, as well as two other Kyrgyz citizens Chingiz Abakirov and Ulanbek Muradilov.

Yesterday, Asylbek uulu Damirbek, Chingiz Abakirov and Ulanbek Muradilov were formally charged under articles 234 (Transfer of goods or other items across the customs border of the Eurasian Economic Union by a person authorized to perform public functions), 264 (Participation in a transnational organized group or a transnational criminal organization ) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
