Kyrgyzstan to host series of concerts of American blues band

A series of concerts of the American blues band Mem Shannon and the Membership Band will take place in Kyrgyzstan from June 27 to July 3 on occasion of the 241st anniversary of the US Independence Day. US Embassy in Kyrgyzstan reported.

Concert tour starts at the annual music festival Tengri in the capital’s Victory Park (South gate) on June 29. The performance with the local symphony orchestra will begin at 9.00 pm. After that, the group will travel to Osh city and hold a concert at the Osh Kyrgyz Drama Theater named after Ibraimov. The concert will begin on July 1 at 5.30 pm.

The tour ends with a concert in one of the shopping centers of Bishkek on July 2 at 6 pm.

Admission is free.

Mem Shannon and the Membership Band will also conduct master classes for young musicians and members of the Access Microscholarship program sponsored by the US Embassy. Classes will be held in the American corners in Bishkek and Osh.

The group’s repertoire is a perfect blend of blues, soul and funk, which will be enjoyed by all connoisseurs of the genre. Band Mem Shannon and the Membership Band are from New Orleans.

Mem Shannon is a 60-year-old African-American blues singer and guitarist with a unique style of performance. He participated in numerous jazz festivals all over America. Having released six albums, he repeatedly became the nominee of prestigious prizes in the field of jazz music around the world.

Lance Ellis is a saxophonist who grew up on the works of the great Charles Miller. Earl Smith is a drummer and vocalist. Tom Worrell is a keyboarder, he can be called a multi-instrumentalist, since Tom started playing piano at the age of four, and later added a trombone and bass guitar to his repertoire. Will Repholz is a bass player who performed at many international venues.
