The design stage of a biolaboratory that Russia will build in Kyrgyzstan is nearing completion. Nurbolot Usenbaev, an employee of the Republican Center for Quarantine and Particularly Dangerous Infections, told 24.kg news agency.
According to him, if the design is ready and agreed upon by the end of November, construction may begin in 2025.
It was previously reported that the construction of the laboratory is planned within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding on biological safety signed by the governments of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation during President Vladimir Putin’s visit to the republic in October 2023.
This will be a joint Kyrgyz-Russian Scientific Center for the study of epidemiological infectious diseases.
According to experts, the equipped laboratory will allow to carry out molecular genetic research, which will make it possible to deeply decipher local microbes inherent in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic and to conduct their passportization.
