Kazakh Foreign Ministry excludes Taliban from list of terrorist organizations

Kazakhstan decided to exclude Taliban movement from the list of banned organizations. Kazinform reports.

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Aibek Smadiarov said in an interview that, according to the resolutions of the UN Security Council, which are binding, Taliban is not included in the lists of organizations recognized by the Security Council as terrorist.

At the same time, he did not specify how Kazakhstan would develop diplomatic relations with the Taliban.

«Kazakhstan will continue to strictly adhere to the decisions and resolutions adopted by the Security Council and the UN General Assembly,» Aibek Smadiarov said.

Taliban is Islamist far-right religious and political movement, recognized as terrorist and banned in most countries of the world. The movement appeared in 1986-1987. From 1996 to 2001, the Taliban ruled Afghanistan. In 2021, after the withdrawal of the U.S. army from the country, the Taliban militarily seized power again and became the official government of Afghanistan.

Today, the Taliban is trying to establish diplomatic relations with various countries and rehabilitate itself in the eyes of the world community.
