Health Ministry and UNICEF discuss implementation of joint programs

The issues of preparing an annual review of UNICEF support to the health sector, immunization programs, nutrition and air quality programs were discussed at the meeting by the Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan Alymkadyr Beishenaliev, the Acting Representative of UNICEF in Kyrgyzstan Cristina Brugiolo, the Regional Health Advisor at UNICEF Gabriele Fontana and the head of UNICEF Health Programs in Kyrgyzstan Surenchimeg Vanchinkhuu.

As the press center of the ministry noted, one of the main areas of cooperation with UNICEF is immunization.

With the support of UNICEF, a number of projects are being implemented that are aimed at modernizing the cold chain in healthcare organizations of the republic.

As a result of this cooperation, the country gained access to high-quality prequalified refrigerators, voltage stabilizers, continuous temperature monitoring devices, and the process of replacing household refrigerators with specialized ones that meet PQS standards began.

As for proper nutrition, the Ministry of Health, with the support of UNICEF, conducted for the first time a National Integrated Study on the nutritional status of women and children in the Kyrgyz Republic in 2021. 1,417 health workers were trained to provide nutritional advice to pregnant and lactating mothers, newborns and children under five years old. A Neural Tube Defect Registry has also been introduced to improve monitoring at the national level.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to discuss further steps of cooperation, including the preparation of the Annual Review of UNICEF support to the healthcare sector of the Kyrgyz Republic at the joint annual healthcare review and healthcare summit, which is scheduled to be held from December 18 to December 22.
