«More than half of our country’s territory is located at an altitude from 1,000 to 3,000 meters, and the difficulties faced by residents of high mountain regions are well known to us. It is obvious that mountainous countries are at serious risk due to climate change, growing water scarcity, land degradation and natural disasters,» she noted.
At the same time, Aigul Japarova drew attention to the fact that the Kyrgyz side welcomes the support of the international community for climate change mitigation and adaptation in mountainous areas. The Kyrgyz Republic will continue its activities and remain the initiator of protection and support of mountain states, which require special attention of the international community.
«Through our efforts, in 2022, the 77th session of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on Sustainable Mountain Development. On our initiative, this resolution declared 2023-2027 as the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions,» the First Lady of Kyrgyzstan said.
