Moratorium on renaming streets and parks in Bishkek extended

Moratorium on renaming avenues, alleys, squares, city parks, boulevards, streets and lanes in Bishkek has been extended for 10 years. The decision was made at the session of the Bishkek City Council on Thursday.

Deputies adopted the draft resolution without discussion.

The moratorium on renaming of geographical objects, including residential areas, was declared in April 2013 by the resolution of the Bishkek City Council for 10 years. It has now been extended for 10 more years.

Last year, deputy of the Bishkek City Council Taalaibek Usubaliev proposed renaming the city districts, since the existing names were outdated. Speaker of the Parliament Nurlanbek Shakiev came up with a similar initiative at the kurultai. In December 2022, former director of the State Agency for Civil Service and Local Government Affairs Elchibek Zhantaev said at a meeting of the Parliament that work on renaming four districts of Bishkek had already begun.
