Kyrgyzstan to ban exports of flour and wheat

A draft decision has been submitted to ban the export of all categories of food wheat and flour. The Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The ban is proposed to be imposed for six months to ensure food security and stabilization of market prices for goods.

The ministry notes that flour prices are rising in the Kyrgyz Republic. The product is socially important, and in case of shortage in the market it may lead to a food crisis in the country. In addition, a letter of rejection of applications for transit through the territory of Kazakhstan of food wheat and sugar to Kyrgyzstan was received.

The authorities of the republic are ready to mobilize the reserves of the State Material Reserves Fund to stabilize the situation. But cheap grain and flour can be exported from the Kyrgyz Republic. To prevent this from happening, the Ministry of Agriculture proposes to impose an export ban.
