EEC representatives assess situation on border with Kazakhstan

Representatives of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) visited Ak-Tilek checkpoint, where the largest number of vehicles standing in line is registered. The Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan Nazarbek Malayev told 24.kg news agency.

According to him, immediately after the traffic jam at the border formed, Kyrgyzstan sent a letter to Kazakhstan with a request to explain the situation. However, no response has been received yet. In addition, Kyrgyzstan sent an appeal to the EEC Chairman Mikhail Myasnikovich. The EEC reacted promptly, created a working group and sent representatives of different departments to Kyrgyzstan. It is headed by Arzybek Kozhoshev, a member of the EEC Board (Minister) in charge of energy and infrastructure.

«We visited the border checkpoint together with EEC representatives and our state bodies. They recorded more than 350 vehicles at Ak-Tilek checkpoint, the traffic jam stretches for 7-8 kilometers. Representatives of the EEC talked to businessmen, government agencies. They have not visited the Kazakh side yet. They are waiting for notification from Kazakhstan to look at the situation there,» Nazarbek Malayev said.

He noted that during meeting with representatives of the EEC, special attention was paid to the fact that Kazakhstan violates the fundamental principles of the EAEU and prevents free movement of goods within the Union.

«We drew the attention to the fact that such situations are systematic. We believe that the problem must be addressed comprehensively,» the Deputy Minister concluded.
