Rosatom plans to create radionuclide diagnostics department in Kyrgyzstan

Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom intends to create a department of radionuclide diagnostics. Press service of the Russian state corporation reports.

The new department of radionuclide diagnostics for patients with oncological and other socially significant diseases will soon appear in the Kyrgyz Republic. Rusatom Healthcare JSC (RHC, a division of Rosatom that accumulates competencies in the field of healthcare) will create the department.

It will operate at the premises of the National Center of Oncology and Hematology in Bishkek. Rosatom has already delivered a GT-4K technetium-99m generator there. These medical products are used for diagnostic procedures for oncological, cardiological, neuroendocrine and other diseases.

«Opening of the center will give residents of the Kyrgyz Republican an opportunity to get access to high-tech medical diagnostics using the capabilities of a peaceful atom. The next step will be obtaining a license from the republican regulators for the compliance of the project with radiation safety requirements, as well as for the use of radioisotope products. Technetium-99m is the most demanded isotope in nuclear medicine, more than 80 percent of the procedures are performed on its basis on the device for single photon emission computed tomography, which was delivered to the new department,» the statement says.

According to RHC Director Igor Obrubov, the project is of great importance for the development of nuclear medicine in Kyrgyzstan and the continuation of strategic cooperation.
