Ombudsperson of Kyrgyzstan Jamilya Jamanbayeva met with the authors of the first books about autism in the Kyrgyz language, journalist Baktygul Chynybayeva and a student at Saint John’s University Zeynep Ibraim kyzy.
The authors of the books «Ozgocho Bobogum» (My Special Brother) Zeynep Ibrahim kyzy and «Autism Menen Zhashoo» (Life with Autism) Baktygul Chynybayeva are the sister and mother of a special boy, Urmat.
The Ombudsperson and the books authors discussed the importance of ensuring the rights of children with autism.
Baktygul Chynybaeva told Jamilya Jamanbayeva what prompted her to write her book.
«Parents of children with autism in Kyrgyzstan fight every day for every smile, every gesture of the child. However, they are left alone with this problem. The state does not take part in this. There are no public centers for children with autism in the country. Parents of such children turn to the only such, private center, and many cannot afford it. When we first learned about the diagnosis of our child, we were working abroad. All the specialists came to us, and they took care of me. In developed countries, there have long been clear algorithms for making the diagnosis. First of all, help and support is given to parents of children with autism, as it is with informing the parents that begins how a child with such a diagnosis will grow and develop. When we returned to our home country, I realized how dire our situation was and that there was nowhere to wait for help. Parents are trying to achieve certain opportunities by their own efforts. But we need support from the state. And we don’t have it,» she said.
The Ombudsperson presented a letter of thanks to the authors of the books for their contribution to the protection of children’s rights.
«It is important for us to ensure the rights of children with autism. We thank you for your contribution to protecting the interests of children’s rights. With your methodology, many parents will be able to find the strength to help their child. We are aware of the situation with respect for the rights of children with autism. The Ombudsman’s Institute is ready to carry out the necessary work in this direction. We intend to propose systemic changes to ensure optimal development and improve the quality of life of people with autism,» said the Ombudsperson.
It is important to ensure the rights of parents of children with autism to access the necessary information so that they receive support from highly qualified specialists, taking into account the individual needs of their children.
Jamilya Jamanbayeva
