Kazakh boxer Beibut Shumenov put on wanted list for beating Kyrgyzstani

Astana police confirmed that the former world boxing champion has been put on the interstate wanted list, and a pre-trial investigation has been launched. Kazinform reports.

«The city police department of Astana is conducting a pre-trial investigation under Article 293 (Hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan in relation to Beibut Shumenov,» the press service of the police commented.

He was officially put on the interstate wanted list in accordance with the norms of criminal procedure legislation.

Recall, the world boxing champion Beibut Shumenov beat a Kyrgyzstani in Astana. The boxer approached the man in a cafe, began to beat him, and then to strangle him. Other café guests tried to take the athlete away, but he continued beating. Lawyer of the victim, Kanat Tleuzhan, said that the police and prosecutors had been inactive for a month until the video was released.

Later, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that the boxer would be punished.

Beibut Shumenov was officially stripped of his world title in June 2019.
