World Bank ready to support water supply projects in Kyrgyzstan

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov met with the Vice President of the World Bank Group for the Europe and Central Asia Antonella Bassani. Press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.

The parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, including power industry, human resources, drinking water supply and irrigation. They agreed on key areas of partnership until 2027.

The head of the Cabinet noted that Kyrgyzstan, in spite of external shocks, has managed to maintain the trajectory of positive economic growth. The republic is now able to solve large-scale development tasks.

We are ready for a new level of cooperation. It is time to move on to major projects.

In turn, Antonella Bassani said that the World Bank was ready to support development of a road map and financial plan for implementation of projects on the development of drinking water supply and water disposal systems. She also told about plans to participate in the Water Forum, which will be held in Kyrgyzstan in the nearest future.

The head of the Cabinet suggested to work out a mechanism to convert external debt into green and climate initiatives. The Vice President of the World Bank Group noted the importance and scale of the initiative and expressed readiness to study it thoroughly.
