Import of goods from EU to Kyrgyzstan increases by 300 percent

An increase in exports of goods from the European Union to Kyrgyzstan was registered at year-end 2022. The EU Sanctions Envoy David O’Sullivan said at a briefing in Bishkek on Tuesday.

According to him, it is important now to find out where these goods go. The EU wants to understand whether they are consumed domestically, whether the appetite for such products has grown or whether they are exported to other countries in the region, which is also not a problem for the EU.

«We would like to start a dialogue with the authorities in order to analyze the movement of products. If they enter the Russian Federation, we would like a ban to be imposed. We are also planning the issue of transit. A large number of goods go to Kyrgyzstan in transit through Russia. It is important to understand whether they remain in Russia and are not delivered to Kyrgyzstan. We want to get guarantees from Kyrgyz suppliers that they have received the goods. We have already banned the transit of goods that can be used for military purposes. But we would not like to expand the ban. It is better to get assurance that the goods in transit are entering the destination country,» David O’Sullivan said.
