MFA denies involvement of Kyrgyzstanis in 2022 unrest in Kazakhstan

The Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan, Berik Asylov, named the countries whose citizens committed crimes during the January 2022 riots. Tengrinews.kz reports.

«Foreigners have also been recognized as suspects of participating in mass riots and other crimes. Citizens of Uzbekistan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are among them,» Berik Asylov said, speaking at the Majilis.

He said that eight adherents of destructive religious movements were also among the detainees.

According to the news agency, the Prosecutor General Berik Asylov and Interior Minister Marat Akhmetzhanov reported on the progress of the investigation into the 2022 January events in the Majilis on January 5.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reacted to the statement of the head of the supervisory body of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Foreign Ministry categorically denies any involvement of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic in last year’s tragic events in Kazakhstan.

«At the same time, as part of the investigation of criminal cases on the fact of mass riots, two citizens of Kyrgyzstan were brought to justice with a suspended sentence. These citizens, due to circumstances beyond their control, were accidentally involved in a separate episode,» the ministry said in a statement.

Particular attention is drawn to the fact that the responsibility and guilt of other citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic have not been proven. Not a single citizen of Kyrgyzstan participated either in rallies, or in mass pogroms and looting in Kazakhstan.

From the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

«During the January events of 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and foreign agencies of the Kyrgyz Republic carried out comprehensive work to ensure the protection of the rights and interests of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic, including more than 600 Kyrgyzstanis were promptly evacuated,» the ministry added.
