Air pollution: Activists demand to solve smog problem in Bishkek

Environmental activists held a campaign in Bishkek and demanded to solve the problem of smog in the capital.

The participants of the event, having gathered at the central Ala-Too square, noted that Kyrgyzstan has been taking the first places in the global ratings and ranks in terms of air pollution for several years.

«The Ministry of Health recommends outdoor walks, especially for pregnant women, children and older people in the fresh air. Where is the fresh air? When the level of pollution is so high, it becomes dangerous to do sports, ventilate the premises and generally go out. The authorities only promise to resolve the issue. We, the people of Bishkek, are tired of promises and demand to take urgent measures and execute the presidential decree «On measures to ensure environmental safety and climate sustainability of the Kyrgyz Republic,» said Bermet Borubayeva.

The participants of the campaign did breathing and physical exercises in the open air. Works by the photographer Vlad Ushakov «Time of Kozhozhash» were also demonstrated at the campaign.

It should be noted that there is a ban on holding peaceful assemblies in Bishkek until December 31, 2022. The decision was taken by the Pervomaisky District Court. It is forbidden to hold peaceful protests and marches in the center of the capital.
