Attitude towards children and adolescents in Kyrgyzstan is alarming. Ombudsman Atyr Abdrakhmatova said at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on constitutional legislation, state structure, judicial, legal issues and regulations.
She noted that the Ombudsman, in case of receiving information about violence against children, immediately reacts. According to her, one of the problems in observing the children’s rights is child labor.
«Unfortunately, parents send their children to work with friends and relatives, as it was with an 11-year-old girl in Moscow. It is not known in what conditions they work, whether they are ready for this psychologically. Research in this direction was carried out in 2007 and 2014. There was not any since then,» Atyr Abdrakhmatova said.
According to her, involvement of children in labor increases with the beginning of spring field work.
«Teachers write on social media, report anonymously that children skip classes en masse and work in the fields. The law clearly states where and how many hours minors can work. We are monitoring and preparing a methodology for observing safety standards and the child’s right to education. Given the recent cases of violence against children, in general, we can say that the attitude towards children and adolescents in the country is alarming,» Atyr Abrakhmatova said.
