Ombudsman suggests compulsory human rights course for policemen

Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan Atyr Abdrakhmatova and co-chair of the Civil Union Urmat Kazakbaev signed a memorandum of cooperation and joint activities. Press service of the Ombudsman reported.

Within the framework of cooperation, measures are planned to step up the observance of human rights and freedoms in the law enforcement system, its democratization and implementation of measures to combat violence against women and girls.

In addition, the following recommendations were discussed at the meeting:

  • Stepping up the observance of human rights in the work of internal affairs bodies;
  • On the need for legislative consolidation of civil management in the Ministry of Internal Affairs;
  • Ensuring openness and accountability of the work of the law enforcement system;
  • Introduction of a mandatory requirement for taking a course on human rights on the basis of the Institute of Ombudsman by potential police officers.
