Kyrgyzstan’s farmers 70 percent provided with seeds of wheat and barley

Farmers in Kyrgyzstan are 70 percent provided with wheat and barley seeds. The Minister of Agriculture Askarbek Dzhanybekov told at a press conference.

«This year need for agricultural seeds is: wheat — 23,600 tons, barley — 41,800 tons. In fact, there are 16,400 tons of wheat seeds, which is 67.9 percent, and 30,600 tons of barley — 73 percent. To fill the missing part of the seeds, it is necessity to purchase them from the foreign markets,» he said.

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture noted that last year, seeds of grain crops in the amount of 1,000 tons were delivered from Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan. At least 1.5 billion soms were allocated from the budget for spring sowing, which made it possible to purchase 15,000 tons of seeds from Russia. About 1,000 more tons of wheat have recently arrived in the form of humanitarian aid from Kazakhstan.
