The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan submitted a draft agreement with Centerra Gold on Kumtor to the Parliament for consideration.
Plenipotentiary Representative of the President to Parliament Almazbek Abytov asked to discuss the issue today behind closed doors.
«We are submitting a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers on the conditions and format of regulating disputes with Centerra Gold, signed on March 4, 2022, to the deputies for discussion,» Almazbek Abytov said.
The deputies will begin consideration of the issue at 2 p.m.
In February, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers, Akylbek Japarov, announced that negotiations on Kumtor with the Canadian company Centerra would be completed by March 15. «The negotiations will be completed from the end of February to March 15. We will give information to everyone, including Parliament. The President himself will announce the results,» he said.
On January 2, the President Sadyr Japarov visited Kumtor gold mine and got acquainted with the activities of Kumtor Gold Company CJSC. He stated that progress had been made in the negotiation process with the Canadian company and discussion of a settlement agreement was nearing completion. The Canadian company also made a statement, outlining its terms of the settlement agreement. Among them, in particular, is the transfer of a stake in the company owned by Kyrgyzstan to Centerra.
