President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov visits Kumtor mine

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov visited Kumtor gold mine on January 2 and got acquainted with the activities of Kumtor Gold Company (KGC) CJSC. The presidential press service reported.

The head of state reportedly got acquainted with the current activities of the enterprise, inspected the heavy mining equipment workshop, Petrov lake and the tailing dump. Sadyr Japarov also examined the central pit, at the bottom of which, as it was previously stated, an abnormally large amount of water allegedly accumulated. He was convinced of the absolutely dry bottom of the pit, the press service specifies.

«It was noted that good progress has been achieved in the negotiation process with the Canadian company Centerra Gold; at present the parties are completing the discussion of an amicable agreement, including, among other things, a condition on the full transfer of the KGK company to the Kyrgyz Republic. The head of state expressed hope that in the very near future an end would be put in the long-term disagreements between the parties,» the statement says.

«Kumtor will become a new page in the history of the country and will be an example of development for the younger generation. The past year has shown that our specialists are able to effectively manage such a large and complex enterprise and achieve high production indicators,» Sadyr Japarov said.
