Kyrgyzstan to complete negotiations with Centerra over Kumtor by March 15

Negotiations with the Canadian Centerra company over Kumtor will be completed by March 15. The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov told at a press conference.

«The negotiations will be completed from the end of February to March 15. We will give everyone information, including Parliament. The President himself will announce the results. When we introduced external management, there were $48,000. It turns out that they have been preparing for the last four or five years, keeping money abroad. They thought that sooner or later the mine would be taken away. But they did not want to leave because of the rising gold prices,» he said.

On January 2, the President Sadyr Japarov visited Kumtor gold mine and got acquainted with the activities of Kumtor Gold Company CJSC. He stated that progress had been made in the negotiation process with the Canadian company and discussion of a settlement agreement was nearing completion. The Canadian company also made a statement, outlining its terms of the settlement agreement. Among them, in particular, is the transfer of a stake in the company owned by Kyrgyzstan to Centerra.
