Situation in Ukraine: SCNS initiates case against Kyrgyz TV channel

A criminal case has been initiated against Next TV channel for inciting ethnic hatred. Press center of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) reported.

It is clarified that the TV channel, using its resources on social media, is spreading false information about an allegedly reached agreement on the provision of military assistance by Kyrgyzstan to Russia during a special operation on the territory of Ukraine. The media outlet referred to the former head of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan as a source of information.

«These actions lead to misinformation and mislead the population of the Kyrgyz Republic and other countries, and are also a catalyst for inciting ethnic hatred and formation of hostility based on nationality. During a check, an expert opinion was obtained on the presence of signs of inciting ethnic hatred in the actions of Next TV channel. A criminal case has been initiated under the article «Inciting ethnic hatred (discord)» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. Investigative actions are being carried out, as a result of which appropriate procedural decisions will be made against the responsible persons of the TV channel,» the SCNS said.

Information was spread on social media that Kyrgyzstan agreed to provide Russia with military assistance and equipment to participate in hostilities in Ukraine, which the Russian Federation calls a special military operation.

A Facebook user Yury Poita, citing the ex-chairman of the National Security of Kazakhstan, posted that Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan had surrendered their positions under pressure from Russia and, on a confidential level, expressed their readiness to provide military assistance to it.

The Ministry of Defense of the Kyrgyz Republic denied this information. They said that at the moment, the troops of the Armed Forces of the republic are in places of their permanent deployment.

Today is the ninth day of fighting in Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, the Russian President Vladimir Putin announced start of a special military operation. It was regarded in Ukraine and in the West as a full-scale invasion.

Second round of Russian-Ukrainian talks took place on Thursday.
