«There is a big task to form and strengthen people’s trust in the institution of Ombudsman and observance of human rights,» Vice Speaker of the Parliament Ulan Primov said, introducing the new Ombudsman Atyr Abdrakhmatova to the team. Secretariat of Ombudsman reported.
He noted that there are complaints of citizens about the work of the institute, and Atyr Abdrakhmatova should create a professional, independent, efficient team as soon as possible and update the format of work to protect human rights in the country.
Atyr Abdrakhmatova named seven main priority areas for the Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan:
- Protection of freedom of speech and thought, political pluralism;
- Promotion of effective access of citizens to enforcement of their social rights;
- Promotion of high-quality and responsible implementation of state guarantees for the population’s access to education and expansion of opportunities for exercising the human economic freedom;
- Promotion of realization of civil, political, economic and social rights of migrants;
- Access to justice, human rights and freedom in the security sector;
- Strengthening the observance of human rights in times of force majeure, martial law or state of emergency;
- Institutional development of the Ombudsman’s Office, increasing public confidence in the work of the Ombudsman.
The Parliament elected Atyr Abdrakhmatova as Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan. At least 50 deputies voted for her candidacy. Only 2 votes were cast for Tursunbek Akun, 9 — for Mamat Momunov, and 13 — for Bakyt Uzenbaev.
