A special session of the UN General Assembly to discuss a draft resolution on the situation in Ukraine is to be held on Monday, February 28. TASS reported with reference to a source in the international organization.
Prior to this, the United States sent a request to the UN to convene the Security Council on Sunday. It is noted that within the framework of the meeting of the UN Security Council, a procedural vote will be held on the issue of holding a session of the General Assembly on the situation in Ukraine. In order for the session to take place, 9 out of 15 members of the Security Council have to vote for it, while the right of veto does not apply to this situation.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, during a conversation with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, called for depriving Russia of the right to vote at the UN Security Council. The head of the country called the military aggression by Russia the reason for such a call. The UN Secretary- General does not have the authority to deprive members of the right to vote at the Security Council.
