The UN Secretary-General appealed to the President of Russia with request to stop troops from attacking Ukraine.
On his Twitter account, António Guterres admitted that he did not believe that this could actually happen.
According to the UN Secretary-General, he hoped that the most serious escalation scenario could be avoided. Guterres emphasized that he was wrong when he thought that Russia would not attack Ukraine. So now he decided to address Vladimir Putin. The UN Secretary-General asked to give peace a chance.

An extraordinary meeting of Russia’s Security Council was held in Moscow on February 21 to discuss the issue of recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decree.
Earlier, the US leader Joe Biden signed a decree banning trade and investment with the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. The document was published on the White House website.
