The aksakals (elders) of the villages bordering with Tajikistan met in Aksai village, Batken region. The Internal Affairs Department of the region reported.
The aksakals of Batken region of the Kyrgyz Republic and Sughd region of Tajikistan came to the meeting.
«The meeting participants noted the need to strengthen friendly bilateral relations in the border areas. The head of Batken district police department Almazbek Shagamurzaev, the head of Isfara-2 district police department Anvar Rakhmanzoda, and the head of internal affairs bodies of Vorukh Mirolizoda Subkhan represented Kyrgyzstan at the meeting. The policemen of the two countries ensured security during the meeting of the elders. At the meeting, the aksakals of the two countries also noted that good neighborly relations have been connecting local residents since ancient times. In addition, the youth were called for harmony and unity,» the Internal Affairs Department said.
On January 27 at 6.15 p.m., the border guards of Tajikistan blocked a section of Batken — Isfana road in Tort-Kocho area of Batken region. The border units of Kyrgyzstan, deployed on this section of the border in Batken region, switched to an enhanced mode of service. The both sides exchanged fire. The Tajik military used mortars and grenade launchers.
At night, the parties agreed on a complete ceasefire, withdrawal of additional forces and equipment from the border, opening of Batken — Isfana road for traffic and joint patrolling of border areas in order to prevent conflicts.
