The issue of determining the line of the state border is the task of the intergovernmental Kyrgyz-Tajik commission, and only it can put an end to the protracted territorial dispute between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The Presidential Envoy to Batken region Abdikarim Alimbaev wrote on his Facebook page.
He notes that the task of the heads of Batken and Sughd regions of the two republics is to prevent conflict situations and their escalation at the border, as well as to make efforts to develop the economy of the border areas.
Abdikarim Alimbaev stresses that disputes over the border line cannot be resolved by military actions.
«We need a constructive and peaceful dialogue at the negotiating table, because the lives of people who live in the border areas, their future and the future of their children, citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, are on the line. I call on the Tajik side to refrain from statements that aggravate the situation in the border area until the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border is legally formalized. I propose to direct all efforts to maintaining peace and stability on the border and strengthening economic and cultural ties between our peoples,» he said.
The Presidential Envoy to Batken region posted the comment after Asia-Plus website published a statement by the head of Sughd region of the Republic of Tajikistan, Rajabboy Ahmadzoda, who said that the Osh-Isfana road passes through the territory of Tajikistan.
