Almaty airport to resume operation from January 13

Almaty International Airport will resume work on January 13. Orda.kz reports with reference to the Civil Aviation Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

According to preliminary information from the management of the airport, domestic and international flights will be operated from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. according to the airlines’ flight schedule.

Almaty airport was seized on January 5, all passengers were evacuated to a hotel. Two days later, the airport was taken under control.

Mass protests in Kazakhstan began on January 2, 2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other regions. The situation is slowly stabilizing; the anti-terrorist operation continues. Internet access has been restored.

President of the republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan. Scorpion special unit was sent to the republic from Kyrgyzstan.
