Damage from riots in Kazakhstan exceeds $215 million

The amount of damage from the riots in Kazakhstan as of the morning of January 10 exceeded $ 215 million. Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the country reported.

According to it, 1,319 affected business entities and 1,488 objects were identified in nine regions of the country, including in Almaty — 1,234 entities and 1,399 objects.

«Sectors of the affected business entities: trade — 1,245, catering — 25, financial sector — 37, logistics — 9, media — 2,» the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs noted.

Mass protests in Kazakhstan began on January 2,2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other cities. The situation is slowly stabilizing; the anti-terrorist operation continues. Internet access has been restored.

President of the republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan. Scorpion special unit was sent to the republic from Kyrgyzstan.
