Situation in Kazakhstan: Damage to business estimated at over $200.4 million

The damage caused to business in Kazakhstan during the riots amounted to more than 88.1 billion tenge (more than $200.4 million). The National Chamber of Entrepreneurs Atameken reports.

«The total amount of damage to business, according to rough estimates, amounted to more than 88.1 billion tenge, in Almaty — 86.8 billion tenge ($197.4 million),» the statement says.

According to the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan, 920 affected business entities were registered in ten regions of the country, including 856 — in Almaty.

Calculation of the damage continues.

Mass protests in Kazakhstan began in the early days of 2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other cities. The situation is slowly stabilizing.

The President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan.
