President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov signed a decree on dispatch of the military contingent of Kyrgyzstan to participate in peacekeeping activities on the territory of Kazakhstan. Presidential press service reported.
It is noted that earlier the CSTO Collective Security Council made a decision to send collective peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan on the basis of a request of the President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in connection with threats to national security and the country’s sovereignty.
«In accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, the Parliament gave permission on January 7 to send the military contingent of the Kyrgyz Republic as part of the collective forces to participate in peacekeeping activities in order to stabilize and normalize the situation on the territory of Kazakhstan,» the statement says.
Mass protests in Kazakhstan began in early 2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other cities. Clashes with security officials continue in Almaty. The Internet is periodically turned off throughout the country, the media practically do not work.
The President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan.
