The military of Kyrgyzstan participating in the CSTO peacekeeping forces in Kazakhstan do not receive any guarantees or mandate. The head of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) Kamchybek Tashiev announced at a meeting of the Parliament.
He noted that all military personnel who go to Kazakhstan will receive appropriate instructions on security measures.
«Shooting at citizens of Kazakhstan is out of the question. This is the first time we make such a decision. Nobody can guarantee anything. The Deputy Minister of Defense will go there with the military. As you understand, we cannot refuse our international obligations,» Kamchybek Tashiev said.
According to him, it is not yet known exactly which objects of Kazakhstan will be guarded by the Kyrgyz military.
Mass protests in Kazakhstan began in early 2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other cities. The President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan.
