Former CEC member Akylbek Eshimov released from custody

Former member of the Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan (CEC) Akylbek Eshimov was released on his own recognizance not to leave the city. Lawyer Jyrgalbek Babaev told 24.kg news agency.

According to him, this decision was made by the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek.

Own sources informed that Akylbek Eshimov fully compensated the damage. In addition, the affected party in the case — representatives of Kyrgyzstan party — wrote a statement, in which they indicate that they have no claims against Eshimov.

Akylbek Eshimov was detained in September 2021.

According to the investigation, the former CEC member, in collusion with one of the leaders of Kyrgyzstan political party, in June 2020 received $ 550,000 from an applicant for being included in the top five candidates for deputies from the political organization in the parliamentary elections scheduled for autumn 2020.

Not fulfilling their obligations, the member of the CEC and one of the leaders of the party returned $300,000 to the man and embezzled $250,000.
