Republican Emergency Center recommends to refrain from holding elections

The head of the Republican Emergency Response Center, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Baatyrbekov, believes that in view of the current difficult epidemiological situation with coronavirus, it is better to refrain from any kind of mass events, including elections. He stated this to 24.kg news agency.

According to the official, the decision on scheduling the election campaign remains with the president and, if the elections to the Parliament are announced, then the center will develop an algorithm for protection of voters, candidates from parties, PECs and TECs from massive COVID-19 infection.

«For the time being, we can recommend holding elections to rural councils, but with observance of all sanitary standards. As for the election of deputies to councils in five cities, it is better to abstain. There are, like in the whole republic, an unfavorable situation with coronavirus infection,» said Almazbek Baatyrbekov.

Recall, elections should be held in Osh, Karakol, Balykchi, Mailuu-Suu, Tokmak and 25 rural councils. At least 22 political parties have applied for participation in the election campaign.
