Bishkek becomes sports capital of Asia

Bishkek became the sports capital of Asia for three days.

According to the State Agency for Youth Affairs, Physical Culture and Sports of the Kyrgyz Republic, the main sports official of our continent, the President of the Olympic Council of Asia, Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Sabah, arrived in Kyrgyzstan on May 1. Within the framework of the visit, he is scheduled to meet with the head of state Sooronbai Jeenbekov, the heads of the State Agency for Youth Affairs, Physical Culture and Sports of the Kyrgyz Republic and the National Olympic Committee of Kyrgyzstan, as well as to participate in the forum for the preparation for the Asian Games 2018.

The forum began today in Bishkek. It brought together representatives of 19 countries of Western and Central Asia. «There are three months left till the Asian Games, which will be held in Indonesia. This is the largest sports event in Asia. Many countries have unresolved issues related to it. They will be able to solve them here, since a full composition of the organizing committee of the Games is among the guests,» Salamat Ergeshov, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Kyrgyzstan, told journalists. «The participants will approve the composition of their delegations to the Asian Games and study the new directives and rules of the International Olympic Committee.»

In addition, the forum will host Fun Run race with participation of 500 schoolchildren, as well as a presentation by the Organizing Committee of the Olympics 2020. «The fact that we were entrusted with such an important event is a great honor. Such kind of event was held here in 2007 last time, but then only the Central Asian countries participated in it,» Salamat Ergeshov added. «This time we plan to sign cooperation agreements with the National Olympic Committee of each country,» he told.
