Moratorium on renaming streets prolonged in Bishkek

The moratorium on renaming the streets (with the exception of Chui Avenue and Shabdan Baatyr Street) was prolonged in Bishkek for another five years — until 2023. The document was adopted today at a regular session of the Bishkek City Council.

Since April 2013, the capital has had a five-year moratorium on renaming avenues, walkways, squares, city parks, boulevards, streets and lanes. New names, according to the decision of the City Council, can be given only to nameless objects.

However, during the moratorium, the deputies made an exception for Mir Avenue, which was given the name of Chingiz Aitmatov. An exception was offered also for the statesman Imanaly Aidarbekov.
