Foreign Affairs Ministry of Kyrgyzstan hands note of protest to Kazakhstan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan today handed Kazakhstan a note of protest. The ministry reported.

According to it, the charge d’affaires of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Kyrgyz Republic R. Karibzhanov was summoned to the Foreign Affairs Ministry in connection with the September 19 meeting in Almaty of Nursultan Nazarbayev with one of the presidential candidates.

«The Ministry expresses bewilderment in connection with the last meeting of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev with one of the candidates for the presidency of the Kyrgyz Republic and an expression of support from the head of Kazakhstan to this candidate in the upcoming elections,» the document says.

Despite of the fact that the head of friendly Kazakhstan said that he does not interfere in the internal affairs of Kyrgyzstan, his words clearly reflect the preference of the Kazakh side regarding the future president of the Kyrgyz Republic.

«Thus, the Kyrgyz side regards these statements, as well as broad coverage by the Kazakh side of this meeting as an attempt to influence the choice of the people of Kyrgyzstan and interference in the internal affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic,» the ministry concluded.
