Foreign Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, China discuss issue of visas to Kyrgyz citizens

The Foreign Affairs Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Erlan Abdyldaev and China Wang Yi discussed issue of Chinese visas to Kyrgyz citizens and problems of Kyrgyz cargo carriers. Press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The meeting of the heads of ministries was held on May 5 during the official visit of Erlan Abdyldaev to China. The sides exchanged views on issues of bilateral relations, international issues, cooperation between the two countries in matters of regional security, and cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

«Currently, Kyrgyz-Chinese relations are experiencing the best stage of their development. Issues of elaborating specific mechanisms for implementing agreements reached at various levels were discussed. Particular attention was paid to the issues of combating terrorism and extremism," the statement said.

Following the talks, the Foreign Ministers signed a program of cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the People’s Republic of China for 2018–2019.

Earlier it was reported that the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, without explaining the reasons, ceased to issue visas to entrepreneurs from Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, the Chinese Embassy assured that there were no problems with issuing visas. The diplomatic mission of China in Kyrgyzstan issues visas of several categories: tourist, commercial, transport, study and work visas.

The problem arose not yesterday. After the terrorist attack at the Embassy of the PRC in Bishkek, which happened on August 30, 2016, it suspended its work. Then the suicide bomber using a car stuffed with explosives rammed the gate of the diplomatic mission.
