Speaker of Parliament visits flood-affected villages in Aksy district

Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan, Nurlanbek Shakiev, visited Aksy district of Jalal-Abad region, where mudflows occurred on May 25. The press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan reported.

As part of the working trip, he inspected the landslide-prone area.

Minister of Emergency Situations Boobek Azhikeev and Plenipotentiary Representative of the President to Jalal-Abad region Absattar Syrgabaev presented operational information on measures taken to prevent and eliminate the consequences of the natural disaster.

Nurlanbek Shakiev got acquainted with the project of planned work to change the bed of Kara-Suu river and strengthen its banks in Charba village, Kara-Kamysh rural area.

«Disasters occur unexpectedly. Given the instability of the weather, special attention should be paid to reducing the risks of floods and landslides throughout the republic. After all, the main wealth of our country is our people. And the main responsibility of the state is to take care of the safety of citizens,» the Speaker of the Parliament said.

Due to heavy rains on May 25, the level of Kara-Suu river rose, and the water flow increased from 35 cubic meters to 100 cubic meters per second. As a result, the river bank was washed away, and a danger of flooding of houses in Charba village appeared.

As part of the working trip, it is also planned to travel to and visit Zhuzumzhan and Kara-Suu villages, where mudflows were previously registered.
