Migrants from Kyrgyzstan in Russia employed in trade and construction

According to the latest data from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the number of citizens of Kyrgyzstan living in the Russian Federation in the first half of 2023 reached 410,000. «Migration records for January — June of this year indicate 467,112 registrations of citizens of Kyrgyzstan, 392,528 among whom registered for the purpose of employment,» the statement says.

Regulation of the stay of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic in Russia is determined by several agreements and treaties between the countries. For example, citizens of the republic received a number of preferences, including the abolition of quotas and mandatory work permits. They can be employed under a civil contract without the need for permits.

Most of them are employed in the fields of wholesale and retail trade, construction, catering and hotel services, as well as in the processing of industrial goods. About 100,000 citizens of Kyrgyzstan provide transport services in the cities of the Russian Federation.
