World Bank works on drinking water supply project in Kyrgyzstan

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Bakyt Torobaev met with Stephanie Gil, head of the World Bank’s team in energy industry for Europe and Central Asia.

The WB team told about the new partnership strategy with Kyrgyzstan for 2024-2028, the key areas of which are energy industry, drinking water, agriculture and others. The WB confirmed the interest and intention to financially support the construction of Kambarata HPP 1.

Representatives of the World Bank stressed that they do not limit their role only to financial participation, but also consider themselves as a co-organizing party in attracting other potential investors.

The World Bank representatives told about the development of a pilot framework project in the field of drinking water supply, the estimated amount of which will be about $400 million. The WB itself will allocate $100 million of this amount.

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers thanked the World Bank for cooperation and noted its important role in the implementation of major projects and launching programs aimed at improving the quality of life of the population of the republic and ensuring sustainable development of the country.
