Charity event in support of Asel Nogoibaeva to be held in Bishkek

A feature film will be screened in Bishkek in support of Asel Nogoibaeva, who was mutilated by her ex-husband in Selektsionnoye village. The organizers reported.

The purpose of the charity event «I am Asel» is to draw the attention of the public of Kyrgyzstan to the problems of domestic violence against women and girls and to raise funds to help Asel Nogoibaeva. The money collected from ticket sales will be handed over to the victim for an operation.

The film will be screened on October 29 at Novotel Bishkek Center hotel from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

After watching the film, a panel discussion «Domestic violence in the Kyrgyz Republic: Society’s efforts to minimize it» will take place. The moderator of the discussion is a certified coach, member of ICF Global Ainura Cholponkulova. Speakers will be a Gestalt therapist Asel Baimbetova, artist, civil activist Tatyana Zelenskaya, lawyer of Asel Nogoibaeva Indira Sautova.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, about 10,000 cases of domestic violence are registered annually in Kyrgyzstan. The UNDP notes that more than 90 percent of domestic violence cases are closed before reaching trial. 95.2 percent of victims of violence are women, of which 33 percent are aged 31-40 and 32 percent are women under 30.

One of the latest victims of brutal violence was 36-year-old Asel Nogoibaeva. Her ex-husband entered her apartment, tortured her, and cut off her nose and ears. Before this, Asel was subjected to physical and sexual violence several times. She repeatedly appealed to law enforcement and judicial authorities. But she did not receive guaranteed protection.

«We wholeheartedly support Asel Nogoibaeva, who, despite the horrific torture of her, being in serious condition, speaks of violence. She personifies the image of thousands of women in the Kyrgyz Republic who are subjected to violence daily. These women are mothers, sisters, daughters-in-law, friends, colleagues. They live next to us. Many of them are raising children who, due to domestic violence, are deprived of a happy childhood and often a positive future,» CAF Public Foundation Director Ainura Cholponkulova said.

Team leader of the charity community of volunteers CAF Kelechek Guliza Payazova calls to stop ignoring cruelty against women.

«Together we can begin to fight violence and help many more women find their voice. By uniting, we will be able to raise money for Asel Nogoibaeva’s operation. By helping the victim, we say no to violence against women,» Guliza Payazova said.

The campaign in support of Asel is carried out by CAF Public Foundation team in partnership with the youth community CAF Kelechek.
