The management of Kumtor Gold Company intends to attract investments. The President of the company, Almaz Baryktabasov, announced at a meeting of the Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Subsoil Use and Industrial Policy of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan.
«We don’t want to rely only on the internal development of the company. We are thinking about attracting investment. The method of underground mining is being developed now; the tailings dump needs to be processed. We studied international practice in this direction,» Almaz Baryktabasov said.
He noted that after the transfer of Kumtor to Kyrgyzstan, there were questions whether Kyrgyz specialists would be able to carry out the work and whether they were available.
«There are specialists, other countries are ready to hire them instantly. They have gained enough experience for 30 years. Therefore, we do not want to do nothing and rely only on the factory, which was built in 1995, but are looking for new methods and technologies for gold mining,» Almaz Baryktabasov said.
In July 2022, Kyrgyzstan announced the final completion of the process of transfer of Kumtor gold mine to the republic from the Canadian Centerra Gold.
